My work is a wordless diagram illustrating the process of making bubble milk tea at home, following these steps:
1. Prepare the Ingredients and Tools: A collection of ingredients—milk, tea bag, sugar, and tapioca pearls, and tools—containers, strainer, straw, and a pot.
2. Cook the Tapioca Pearls (step 1): A small pot on the stove set to high heat, with boiling water and pouring black tapioca pearls in. A hand stirring the pearls. Wait for the pearls to float.
3. Cook the Tapioca Pearls (step 2): After they floated, cover the pot, reduce heat to medium, and display a timer icon for 25 minutes. Turn off the stove, keep the pot covered, and display a timer icon for 30 minutes
4. Drain and Sweeten the Pearls: Strainer with cooked tapioca pearls being rinsed under cold water. Add sugar over the pearls in a bowl for added flavor.
5. Make the Milk Tea Base: Brew tea in a tall glass with hot water and a tea bag, and a timer icon for 5 minutes. Pour in milk. Add sugar.
6. Add the Tapioca Pearls and Ice: Pour the pearls into the glass. Then add some ice cubes.
7. Insert a Wide Straw and Enjoy: Showcasing the finished bubble milk tea.
My target audience is young adults, possibly specifically bubble milk tea consumers. I chose a realistic, less iconic style, focusing on the aesthetic quality of the illustrations. For the visuals, I used a thin 1 pt stroke to outline the images, with even thinner strokes for finer details. The color palette consists of grayscale tones, resembling the actual appearance of the objects in real life. A small amount of red is used to highlight step numbers, transitions within steps, and motion. Considering my target audience, I used a less conventional layout, showcasing the finished product at a large scale in the bottom right corner. A gradient background helps draw attention and enhance visual appeal, making the diagram more engaging.
